Sixth Form
Talbot Heath’s Sixth Form welcomes all girls with a sound basis of subjects at GCSE level who wish to pursue more advanced studies.

We offer a wide range of Advanced level courses from which students select usually four to study to AS level in the Lower Sixth. In the Upper Sixth we would expect girls to study three or four subjects mostly at A2 level with, perhaps, a new subject at AS.

Our Sixth Form timetable is, to some extent, built around individual choices, so many subject combinations are possible. We do, however, urge girls to discuss options with parents, staff and careers advisers to ensure that each individual's programme of study is suited to her aptitude and future plans.

A Level Results DayThe Sixth Form offers existing Talbot Heath pupils the benefit of continuing their education in a familiar, friendly atmosphere, thus facilitating the progress from GCSE to A level. Every year we also welcome a number of girls from other schools who quickly make new friends and settle into life in the Sixth Form.

As you would expect, life in the Sixth Form is very different from the school’s lower years. There is more freedom, girls may wear their own clothes (within reason!) and can organise their own time.

Relationships between girls and staff are much less formal; teaching groups and tutorial groups are smaller and there are opportunities to explore new ideas in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Sixth Formers enjoy the use of two common rooms for socialising, and there is also a designated workroom with computers, where they can go for private study in addition to the library and computer suites.
Sixth Form tutors, together with the careers adviser and experts from Dorset Careers, also give individual guidance on future training and careers. They help students to fill in UCAS forms, arrange mock interviews and work experience in this country and abroad, and help in the planning of a 'gap' year between School and Higher Education.

We are justifiably proud of our A level results, but we are also proud of the young women who leave Talbot Heath well equipped to take their place in society as responsible, caring, self-confident and happy individuals.
