A charity concert helped raise the £500 needed for the nets which are now being used in the girls’ dormitory at St Emmanuel College in Hanika, Rwanda. They will protect pupils from the fatal effects of malaria which kills an estimated 800,000 people in Africa every year. Christine Dipple, Headmistress of Talbot Heath School, said: “It’s wonderful to see the money raised by our students put to such a worthwhile use.” Talbot Heath’s links were first formed with St Emmanuel College in 2005 when students began emailing their African counterparts. But it was two years later, in 2007, when the bonds were strengthened with the formal signing of a partnership agreement between the two schools. The respective heads pledged to encourage the students and teachers of both schools to come together in a spirit of co-operation and mutual understanding. It was signed on Talbot Heath’s behalf by Mrs Dipple who has visited Rwanda twice in the last three years.
