Talbot Heath

Six girls in the Upper 6 spent a long weekend (30Jan -2 Feb) in Brussels. The trip, organized by Miss Silvester and accompanied by Mrs Dipple, was a great success. 

They were given a private guided tour of the European Parliament, had a varied discussion session with Ashley Fox one of the MEPs for our region and were taken to dinner by Mr. Fox, another MEP colleague Julie Girling and their political teams in Brussels.

The girls appreciated the opportunity they were given to debate the issues which were important to them and learned a lot about the role of the Parliament and the careers which might be available to them. We are really grateful for the time which the MEPs and their teams gave up to make this visit so successful. 

As an added bonus they met Pippa Nightingale a former Deputy Head Girl of TH. She had completed her degree at Exeter and in Paris and was just starting a new career in Brussels. She was very enthusiastic about European life and career opportunities and encouraged the girls to aim for Europe. Of course they did also manage to fit in some sight-seeing!  

The girls showed a real interest in everything they heard and saw and we believe there were discussions late into the night. They acquitted themselves well in the discussions and were a credit to the school. We look forward to hearing about their successful European careers in the future!
