The Upper 6 students, accompanied by Headmistress Christine Dipple and Head of Languages Liz Silvester, were given a private guided tour of the European Parliament. They also took part in a varied discussion with Ashley Fox, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the South West and Gibraltar, and were guests at a dinner hosted by Mr Fox with fellow MEP, Julie Girling. An added bonus came when the group, who are studying Citizenship. met up with Pippa Nightingale, a former Talbot Heath Deputy Head Girl. She has just started a new job in Brussels after completing her degree at Exeter University and in Paris. Mr Fox said: “I had tremendous fun debating the past, present and future of Europe with the girls. “I found their questioning and thoughts deeply insightful into what the next generation of young voters’ attitudes to Europe will be. I hope at some point to be able to visit the school again and continue our discussions.” Mrs Dipple said: “The visit was a great success and the students were a credit to Talbot Heath. “It provided a fascinating insight into the workings of an increasingly important institution in all our lives. We’re very grateful to the MEP’s for all their help and support in making the arrangements.”
