Mayor of Bournemouth Presents Musician Cup in Assembly

Talbot Heath School in Bournemouth were very pleased to welcome The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Dr Rodney Cooper during the Monday morning assembly this week. He presented the Denis Welstead Cup to pupil Isabelle Atkinson, who was the outright winner of the Wessex District’s Young Musician Competition, held at Canford School at the end of February this year. The sixth former was performing within a field of thirteen competitors and won the Rotary Club Young Musician Cup with her outstanding performances of pieces by Massenet, Schubert and Novello. The national competition aims to offer young musicians (both vocalists and instrumentalists) an experience of performing on a public stage, an opportunity to demonstrate their musical talent, and to be given an assessment of performance by experienced adjudicators. Isabelle will now go on to compete at the National Final at Truro on 3rd May. The 17-year-old soprano said that she was really pleased to have won the competition especially because the standard of performers was exceptionally high. Isabelle has already secured a scholarship and unconditional offer to study music at the Royal College of Music in London from September, and both the Rotary Club and school community send their best wishes to her for a harmonious musical future.
