This year at Talbot Heath 19 L6 girls took part in the Young Enterprise scheme, giving them the chance to work with friends and students at other schools. They set up real businesses, raising finance through persuading investors of the prospects of their company and product(s). They traded several times through the autumn, winter and spring and were successful in many cases in selling products, making a profit and returning a dividend to their shareholders.
As link teacher I helped to organise the regular meetings at local businesses which provided mentors with real business experience. I also helped with transport, advice and encouragement and disseminated the correspondence to the companies which came into school.
At the end of the scheme, all participating students in Dorset were invited to vote for the 'Young Enterprise Link Teacher of The Year' award and I was delighted that the girls at Talbot Heath voted for me. I was presented with the award at a school assembly by the Dorset Young Enterprise Coordinator, Sue Tattersall.
