A Night in the Footlights

The collaboration of the Music and Drama departments culminated in a dazzling Musical Theatre production of song, drama and dance with ‘A Night in the Footlights’ recently. The production involved more than 100 girls aged from 7 to 18 and provided an occasion to showcase the wealth of artistic talent at the school across many year groups. The choirs performed popular numbers from some favourite West End musicals: the Junior Choir sang numbers from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and ‘Matilda the Musical’ with an impressive solo from Georgina Leadley as Miss Honey singing ‘My House.’ Senior Choir members sang songs from ‘Frozen’, ‘Wicked’ and ‘Fame.’ Budding thespians sprinkled a poignant seasonal ingredient with an extract from Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol.’ The evening offered an opportunity for GCSE drama students to present work from their drama course with scenes from ‘Blood Brothers’, alongside devised performances by the GCSE students themselves, on the lives of iconic stars Marilyn Monroe and Doris Day.

Mrs Holloway praised not only the hard work and commitment of the girls but also their artistic ability, stating how proud she was of each performer, emphasising how ‘wonderful it was to see such a mix of ages all working together to create such an exceptionally entertaining evening.’ A special thank you goes to all of the staff and girls who worked so very hard to make the show such a success.
