Congratulations to Talbot Heath School pupil, Jasmine Johnson-Cole (Lower 5), who has landed a role in the Southampton Mayflower SYP production of OLIVER!
Granted special permission by the West End producer, Sir Cameron MacKintosh; over 450 children and young people auditioned for the musical OLIVER! and will perform it at the glorious Mayflower Theatre, in August. Jasmine is delighted: ‘Lots of people at the audition were saying they did not get into the SYP the first or second time they auditioned – so I was extremely proud and honoured to get a part, after my first audition. I cannot wait to start rehearsals!’
The Mayflower Summer Youth Project is in its third year and is part of the Mayflower Engage Programme, which brings the Community together, through Education, Workshops and Performance, at The Mayflower.
‘We are delighted to again be welcoming 200 exceptionally talented young people from across the region to work with a team of industry professionals over a two week period, says Sara Scott, Community and Education Manager, Mayflower Theatre, ‘the Summer Youth Project is a central part of our Engage work here at the theatre, placing us at the heart of our community’.
As this was Jasmine’s first musical audition, she sought advice from the Talbot Heath School Drama and Music departments, as well as a close friend who had appeared in the Mayflower SYP 2014 production, ‘Five of the Best’. Talbot Heath Head, Mrs Holloway stated, ‘It has been a pleasure to watch Jasmine develop into a very talented actress during her time with us. We wish her success in her role’.
Tickets are on sale now from the Mayflower Box Office and on-line, for the evening and matinee performances, on the Friday 28th, Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th August 2015. Consider yourself invited!
