Chamber Concert Delights

On Thursday 11th February parents, staff and pupils were treated to a delightful concert of Chamber Music by some of our Senior pupils in the intimate setting of the Mary Norton Hall.

The concert opened with a lively performance of Scott Joplin's Entertainer by the String Quartet. Alice Stein played a beautifully expressive flute solo by Faure; Amy Jackson and Stefanie Tucker played skilful Baroque violin solos whilst Georgina Leadley and Katie McKenna brought out the lyrical qualities of the cello. Our cello teacher Mrs Keats kindly came to the concert to play an impressive Bach cello duet with Georgina. This was balanced with a romantic horn solo by Charlie Mann and an incredibly energetic Scott Joplin Rag from Hannah Glatter on marimba.

Polished vocal solos from Eve Preston, Isabel Mumford and Iolla Grace added another dimension to the occasion. A wonderful moment was watching Jamilla Smith Joseph and Bethany Russell join with our advanced string players to play an English Folk Dance. The concert ended with a fun, energetic Moto Perpetuo composed and played by Helena Bartlett for violin with piano accompaniment.

Parents and friends enjoyed refreshments at the end of the concert and all agreed that the evening had been a wonderful display of musical talent. Thanks go to Mr Hill for his expert piano accompaniments. Well done to all involved.
