It was the second year running – literally – for Team Talbot Heath to take part in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival weekend on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October, and raise money for their partner school in Rwanda, College St Emmanuel. Sponsorship money is still coming in but so far the school community has raised an outstanding £6,000, which will refurbish the dormitory of the partner school.
The team doubled this year with 232 runners taking part in the various distances set during the weekend, and runners across the school community were signed up from Pre-prep through to Sixth Form, as well as many staff and parents: all fundraising for the same worthy goal. The atmosphere was incredible on the sea front and everybody had a wonderful time. There were tears of joy, achievement and emotion as everyone crossed the finishing line of either the 1.5km, the 2km, the 5km, the 10km, the 1/2 marathon and the full marathon. All these races were well attended but the 5km race had a particularly amazing atmosphere as it was run in the dark with head torches.
A huge thank you goes to everyone for their efforts, whether it was running, sponsoring or supporting. And a special thank you goes to Anne Klemz and Jo Brown for organising Team TH. It was a really wonderful and uplifting weekend with a great community spirit!
