It was an afternoon celebrating the creative, academic and sporting successes of its students ranging from art, dance and music to Young Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh and awards in STEM. GCSE, A-Level and Degree successes were also acknowledged alongside the array of sporting achievements locally, nationally and internationally.
The ceremony culminated in an interesting address to the school about Fiona Marshall’s extensive research in the Pharmaceutical Industry; the founding of her own Biotech company called Heptares Therapeutics and her work with medical charities such as Alzheimer’s Research UK and Cancer Research UK. Fiona also focused on the importance of promoting the need for more women in science and has been appointed an ‘Ambassador for Women in Science’ by the UK Government’s innovation agency, Innovate UK. Equally she stressed the importance of establishing a harmonious work-life balance.
The school community would like to thank Fiona for giving up her time to present awards and to speak at the Speech Day celebrations, and to, once again, congratulate all of the award winners this year.
