Talbot Heath school was pleased to welcome visitors from the U3A (The University of the Third Age) recently, to offer an architectural tour of the grounds and visit the onsite WWII Air Raid shelter. The group from Lytchett Matravers, met with the Head and were given a tour of the bunker where they looked at material from the school archive and learnt about the history of the school, as part of their Explore Dorset learning. U3A is a UK movement of retired and semi-retired people who come together to continue their educational, social and creative interests; they had previously visited the underground bunker as part of Dorset Architectural and Heritage Week in September.
Year 2 also lately enjoyed a visit to the Air Raid shelter as part of their learning experience. Each week year 2 enjoy trying to find different places around the school to read their prepared pages, the prepared pages help the children to develop their expression and experience of reading to others in a loud, clear voice. Most of the girls had never been inside the bunker before and were fascinated at seeing it and experiencing the unusual acoustics there.
