1. Purpose –
At Talbot Heath, we take pride in celebrating the achievements, experiences and daily life of our pupils. Carefully selected images, video and pupil work allow us to showcase what pupils are doing in our school. We are proud of their achievements; so, would very much appreciate your consent to take photos and videos in the ways described below.
2. Our Approach –
We aim to safeguard every pupil’s wellbeing and identity, present pupils in a positive and dignified way, be transparent about how content is used, and give pupils and families clear and meaningful choice.
It is important to remember that the photographs and videos taken are appropriate and taken in good faith. If we take the following measures, we can ensure the safety of children.
We strongly encourage participation so pupils can feel included in celebrating school life.
We are committed to doing this safely and therefore require parental consent (and pupil consent for those pupils aged 13 and over) to take and use images of your child.
If you are not happy to do so, we can accommodate your preferences. If you give consent, you can review, update or withdraw consent at any time by directly contacting the school office office@talbotheath.org
3. Where Images and Media May Be Used
– School website
– Official Talbot Heath School social media channels
– Printed publications such as the School Prospectus and literature
– School displays and presentations
– Press and media coverage including large format outdoor media such as billboards.
4. Safeguarding and Identity Protection –
Full names will not be used alongside images online. First names may be used where appropriate. No identifiable personal information will be published. Images are always reviewed before use, and staff follow safeguarding training.
Where photographs or film footage may be taken by external organisations (for example sports clubs or other schools), the School will make third parties aware of any pupils who do not have permission for their image to be used in the public domain. The School expects third parties to comply with these requirements and take appropriate steps to ensure that restricted images are not published. In the instance of high profile third party media coverage such as national sports events, medias are likely to use full names to celebrate.
Some pupils may have safeguarding, legal or family circumstances that mean their image must not be shared publicly. Pupils must not upload, share or circulate photographs or videos of other pupils through social media, group chats or other online platforms without permission.
Whilst pupil mobile phones are kept secured in Yondr pouches during the school day, all pupils are expected to respect the privacy and safeguarding needs of others both in and outside school. This includes complying with any restrictions relating to the use of images of members of the school community.
The School may investigate and take appropriate action where the sharing of images compromises the safety, privacy or wellbeing of another member of the school community.
5. AI and Image Misuse –
We recognise risks associated with AI such as deepfakes. The school selects appropriate imagery, avoids sensitive content, and regularly reviews published material to reduce misuse risks.
6. Our Consent Model –
A single consent decision applies across all platforms:
– Opting in to all uses (encouraged)
– Opting out of all uses
Opting out applies across all media.
7. Age-Based Consent –
For pupils under 13, consent must be given by a parent or carer.
For pupils aged 13 and above, the pupil may give their own consent. Shared discussion is encouraged.
Pupils over the age of 13 must make it their own responsibility to remove themselves from shot in group situations.
8. Data Protection –
All image use complies with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and school safeguarding policies. The School will process images of your child that are necessary for internal administration of the school.
