June News Summer Sport Update

Congratulations to the various Talbot Heath sports teams and individuals for their recent successes on court, in and on the water, and also on the track and the field…

This week Talbot Heath hosted the first TH athletics meeting for year 5 and 6 pupils; a number of local schools were invited to participate, including Park, St Martins and Talbot House. The competition was strong and everybody enjoyed a great afternoon of athletics. Aside from the competition it was also impressive to see some of the girls showing real sportsmanship during the afternoon for which they were presented with a special sportsmanship award. Thanks go to Mrs Newcombe for organising.

A number of girls from Talbot Heath represented Bournemouth in the Dorset County Athletics Championships last Saturday and achieved the following results.
In the junior girls’ team: Daisy G was 3rd in the javelin, Vanessa T 5th in the shot put, Darcie J 6th in the long jump, Sophie D 7th in the Long Jump and 6th in the 100m heat, and Jemima C won the 800m.
In the inter girls’ team: Ella R was 1st in the shot put and 2nd in the discus, Nancy T 2nd in the 800m and Polly E won the steeplechase. In the senior girls’ team Erin W won the 3000m. congratulations to everyone involved.
Following this event selections were made for athletes to represent Dorset in the South-West Championships which is happening in Exeter this weekend. The following TH girls were selected:
Jemima C, Polly E, Ella R and Erin W.
Well done to these girls and the school community wish them lots of luck.
A pleasant day of tennis was enjoyed by all, with 26 pupils choosing to enter the Year 5 Spencer Cup tournament. The final was Nyah and Elizabeth for the Cup and Sude and AiVy for the Plate.
Elizabeth won the final game 13-11 with Nyah battling back from being 7-3 down. AiVy won the plate convincingly with a score of 10-5.
Last week there were two sailing regattas held on the lake in Poole Park. The primary event was on Friday and the senior event last Wednesday: teams from Talbot Heath were entered in both.
The seniors sailed well with three girls sailing single handed in Gold fleet, namely Freya P, Johanna Y and Lilia V, and sailing as a pair in the Challenge fleet were Isla H and Amelia B. They all sailed well and following a re-check of the results announced on the day, the girls were moved up to be placed 3rd team overall – a superb achievement!

Congratulations to Jemima and Erin C who are the National Schools Biathle Champions!

Last Sunday, Jemima and Erin competed in the National Schools Biathle at Leweston. Erin won the Year 12/13 race and Jemima won the Year 8 race – it was great to have Talbot Heath on the top step of the podium as National Champions in two of the six senior girls’ races with many of the top schools represented.

And finally, SWIMMING

Congratulations to Eliza C’s achievement in the water last weekend. She took part in the Great North Swim 250m open water swimming event in Lake Windermere and came 1st out of 355 entrants with a time of 3 mins 24 seconds. Her family and the school are incredibly proud of her achievement, especially as it was very windy and choppy. Well swum!
