TH Swimmers Soar to Success at the South West Championships

Four swimmers from the Talbot Heath Swimming Pathway ventured east to the new venue of Okehampton, to compete in the English Schools Swimming Association Primary School Teams regional competition recently. The journey was filled with music quizzes, games of Uno, and Team Manager Mrs. Salmond and Swim Coach Mr. Alldrick were treated to some rather high-pitched tones of songs from the likes Dua Lipa!

Upon reaching the venue, Caidee, Alex, Lara, and Super-Sub Yasmin, efficiently went about their business, following a land-based warm-up and pool warm-up to hone their skills.

The first event was the 4x25m Freestyle relay, where the team competed in the final heat against mixed teams of boys and girls. Caidee established an early lead on the first leg, Lara extended the advantage, Alex built on it further, and Yasmin secured the win with an impressive performance, earning them a spot in the National Finals. Notably, the girls’ breathing pattern was limited to twice in each length during their sprints!

In the 4x25m Medley Relay, Lara kickstarted the team on the backstroke leg, creating a lead that Caidee enhanced on breaststroke. Alex maintained the momentum on butterfly, passing on to Yasmin, who finished strong once more, securing another win and qualifying the team for their second race at the National Finals in Sheffield in June.

The victorious journey back was filled with some more rain alongside singing, laughter, and bonding, fuelled by their success and a few sugary treats.

A proud well done to our team and a big thank you to Mr Salmond for volunteering her time as Team Manager

Stay tuned to witness the team’s performance at the National Finals in June!
