Helena Leads the Way

Helena Bartlett from Talbot Heath School in Bournemouth has been appointed the new leader of the Wessex Youth Orchestra. The 14-year-old, who has been playing violin since the age of seven, performed in a day long audition at St Andrew’s Hall in Poole to secure the position and said she was absolutely delighted, stating ‘it was a real honour to be chosen, especially at such a young age.’ Fellow pupils and orchestra members are violinist Amy Jackson and cellist Frankie Holman, along with sixth former Charlotte Kirk-Patrick who plays the clarinet. Their first concert will be in November at the Royal Albert Hall where Helena shall be leading out the orchestra as part of the Music for Youth’s School Proms.
