Above: Team Talbot Heath - Run For Rwanda...
Following the Bournemouth Marathon Festival weekend, Talbot Heath school has successfully raised money for their partner school in Rwanda, College St Emmanuel. The target of £5000 has been exceeded for a new roof and a new water tank nearby at the school. Over 120 runners took part in the 1.5, 2, 5, 10km, half marathon and full marathon, from Pre-prep through to Sixth Form, as well as lots of staff and parents.
Team TH were sent a special message from the partner school on the Saturday morning before the run offering their support and solidarity: ‘Dear Mrs Holloway, You are special friends. We are praying very much for you all this weekend. Tell all the runners just how much we appreciate what they are doing. We wish the world had many people like you all. Love from Godfrey and all at College St Emmanuel, Rwanda.’
Mrs Holloway dedicated a special assembly to celebrate the achievements of Team TH, saying, 'A huge well done and thank you to our amazing runners who have been running all weekend to raise money.' Adding a special mention to 'all our fabulous staff runners. You did brilliantly. Thank you.' A special thank you went to Anne Klemz and Jo Brown for organising Team TH. It was a really wonderful and uplifting weekend with a great community spirit.
If you did not run but would like to support the team you can donate online ( see our website or facebook page or our JustGiving page for details and photos) or drop a donation in to the finance office.
Update from Mrs Klemz:
I cannot believe it has already been 3 weeks since our super team effort! As we are all looking forward to half term and a well-deserved rest, I thought I would write to you first of all to congratulate every single one of you for your tremendous efforts in running and in fund-raising: the weekend could not have been more perfect as the weather was glorious and the 5 teams ran really well and with such enthusiasm!
We had 104 runners from TH who trained and ran for our partner school and the rest of the school community who supported us all by cheering on the day and donating. Thanks to this amazing team effort, we have reached our goal which was to raise £5,000 for College Saint-Emmanuel in Rwanda. To date, we have now raised £5427.42 . This is all thanks to you and all your efforts so on behalf of the school, thank you so much. College Saint Emmanuel will now be able to have a new roof and another water tank.
I hope you will feel as uplifted as I am after this experience and the fact that some of you have now taken up running as a regular activity is an added bonus: what joy to hear that some of our 6thformers have already signed up for their next half marathon! What role models for our younger pupils.
Some of us have already signed up for next year’s race and I really hope that you will have been inspired by this experience.
I look forward to our next team TH effort.
With very best wishes
