A Job Well Done - Careers Convention 2015

Workshops & Events

The 2015 Careers Convention was held at Talbot Heath on Thursday 22nd October, in conjunction with Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girls. Newly appointed Careers Co-Ordinator Karen McDonald excelled in her challenge of organising this year’s event which proved to be a superb success for speakers, delegates and visitors. Over 60 universities and careers were represented providing a range of up-to-date and career focussed information on opportunities, progression routes, choices, where to find help and advice and how to access it.Encompassed in the evening were talks about Engineering from a selection of speakers ranging from Civil Engineers to Mechanical Engineers. Students from year 9 upwards and their parents were also able to find out about working in the Foreign Office. Dr Tim Battcock spoke about his work in the NHS and Dr Jan Peters, a STEM ambassador offered a session entitled, ‘I’m taking Science, what will I do with it?’ A number of speakers gave talks about working in the Arts and a special guest appearance by the charismatic Jimmy Cregan from Jimmy’s Iced Coffee proved to be extremely popular as he spoke about being an entrepreneur.

There was a real buzz throughout the evening and the school received a great deal of positive feedback from parents, students and speakers. Congratulations go to Mrs McDonald for organising such a successful evening and thanks go to the staff for all of their help and support.
