A new peer mentoring initiative, designed by Talbot Heath Deputy Head Girl Lola Robbins, will help Year 7 pupils feel welcomed, supported and connected as they begin their Senior School journey.
The Big Sister Initiative pairs every U3 (Year 7) pupil with a member of the Sixth Form, creating meaningful connections across year groups and strengthening Talbot Heath’s family ethos.
Throughout the academic year, Sixth Form mentors will spend dedicated time with their younger counterparts during form sessions, providing guidance, encouragement and friendship. The programme aims to give new pupils a familiar and approachable face from their very first days at the school, helping them settle confidently into Senior School life.
As well as organised activities and check-ins, Big Sisters will be available for informal conversations, advice and support whenever needed, creating relationships that extend beyond the classroom and build a stronger sense of community across the school.
Lola commented “We know that starting Year 7 can feel exciting but also a little overwhelming, so I wanted to create something that helps younger pupils feel supported from day one. Having an older student to talk to, ask questions of, or simply say hello to around school can make a real difference. The Big Sister Initiative is all about friendship, kindness and helping every girl feel that she belongs as part of the Talbot Heath family.”

Anna Talbot, Deputy Head and Pastoral Lead, welcomed the initiative and praised the student leadership behind it.
“Pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do at Talbot Heath, and this initiative is a wonderful example of our students taking ownership of that culture. Lola’s idea embodies the values of empathy, leadership and community. By nurturing positive relationships between our youngest and oldest students, we are creating an environment where every pupil feels known, supported and valued.”
The Big Sister Initiative reflects Talbot Heath’s commitment to nurturing confident, compassionate young women and ensuring that every pupil benefits from the strength of a connected and caring school community.
