Talbot Heath School Awarded Prestigious ESSA Gold President’s Award for Swimming Excellence

Talbot Heath School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) National President’s Award Gold, sponsored by Watch Me Swimming Awards, in recognition of its outstanding swimming provision across all age groups.

The Gold Award celebrates excellence in curriculum swimming and recognises schools that provide exceptional opportunities for pupils to develop confidence, competence and enjoyment in the water. The accolade acknowledges not only Talbot Heath’s comprehensive swimming programme within PE lessons, but also the extensive opportunities available for pupils to further their skills, progress in the sport and access pathways for continued development.

Swimming forms a central part of life at Talbot Heath, beginning in Kindergarten and continuing throughout a pupil’s educational journey. The school’s approach focuses on developing essential water safety skills, building confidence, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, and supporting those who wish to pursue competitive swimming at the highest levels.

Whether pupils aim to become strong, confident swimmers, improve their fitness, take on personal challenges, or compete in national events, Talbot Heath provides opportunities for all abilities and aspirations.

Lou Lindon, Head of Sport at Talbot Heath School, said:

“Receiving the ESSA Gold President’s Award is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the breadth and quality of our swimming provision from age three. We are fortunate to be able to offer swimming throughout a pupil’s journey at Talbot Heath, giving every child the opportunity to develop confidence, competence and a love of being active in the water. This award recognises the dedication of our PE team and our commitment to providing outstanding experiences for all pupils, regardless of their starting point.”

Barry Alldrick, Talbot Heath Swim Academy Coach, added:

“Swimming is a big part of life at Talbot Heath and one of the things that makes the school so special. From our youngest pupils taking their first strokes to those competing at a high level, we encourage every child to develop a lifelong relationship with the water. It’s about much more than competition. It’s about wellbeing, resilience, water safety and creating opportunities that pupils can enjoy for years to come. We’re incredibly proud that this award recognises that whole-school approach.”

The school’s innovative use of its swimming facilities extends beyond traditional lessons and training sessions. The pool is frequently incorporated into wider learning experiences, including creative interdisciplinary projects that bring learning to life in unexpected and memorable ways.

The ESSA National President’s Award Gold further reinforces Talbot Heath’s reputation for delivering exceptional sporting opportunities and nurturing healthy, confident and adventurous young people through a broad and inspiring educational experience.
