A day in the life of the Talbot Heath Headteacher

Yesterday began, as many do, with a brisk check of emails before heading out to greet students and staff—a moment I always treasure for its warmth and energy. By 8:30am, I was online for a TEAMS catch-up with our Chair of Governors, discussing plans for the upcoming Education and Staffing Committee. Shortly after, I joined the senior school assembly in the main hall. While I lead Tuesday assemblies, Thursdays are guest-led, and this week’s theme—Mental Health Awareness—was both timely and thought-provoking.

Mid-morning brought a learning walk through classrooms, a chance to witness the vibrancy of teaching and learning in action. It’s always inspiring to see our girls so engaged, and our staff so dedicated. I then met with our Facilities Manager to review the electrical infrastructure project, health and safety compliance, and exciting plans for the Laser Night. Break time was a joyful pause, awarding Headteacher Commendations to students whose efforts deserve recognition. A quick catch-up with Mrs Brown followed, where we discussed early preparations for the Carol Service (yes, Christmas is already on the horizon!) and forthcoming Parents’ Evenings for the Junior School.

Lunch duty in the dining room gave me the chance to chat with students—always a highlight—and hear their thoughts on everything from lessons to lunch menus. Later, I visited our EYFS area, where our two-year-olds were joyfully exploring phonics in their wonderful new learning space. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were infectious.

The day concluded with our Sixth Form Open Evening, welcoming both current and prospective families. It was a pleasure to share what makes our Sixth Form so special—from academic excellence to personal development opportunities—and to see the pride in our students as they spoke about their experiences. After a full and fulfilling day, I headed home for a well-earned cup of tea, reflecting on the privilege of leading such a vibrant and happy community.

Take a look at all the fabulous events coming up, including the PSS Movie Night, Laser Show and our school production of SIX Teen Edition here.

Wishing your family a lovely weekend.
