A Warm Welcome Back

It was a true delight to welcome former pupil Patricia Ross, now Lady Finch, back to Talbot Heath — a school she first joined as a boarder in 1955 under the formidable leadership of Dr MacPherson.

Lady Finch, whose late husband served as Lord Mayor of London in 2003, shared fond memories of her school days – from lifelong friendships to a love of geography that led her to secretarial college and a career in independent television.

During her visit with close friend Elisabeth Walker (grandmother to current pupils Zara and Sadie), Lady Finch returned to the boarding house, where she reflected on her experience as a pupil. In the 1950s, it was stark, with very basic food, but today she found a warm, welcoming home-from-home, with a family feel and the most delicious meals — all served in the same dining room she once ate in.

They both marvelled at how much of the school’s original fabric remains, while celebrating the extraordinary developments — from the state-of-the-art STEAM Hub to our immersive teaching and pastoral care.

By chance, three teachers recognised Elisabeth’s granddaughters, a reminder of the deeply personal, family ethos at the heart of Talbot Heath. A special thank you to Mr Dobre-Caree (DT Technician) and Miss Coates (Head of Art), whose passion and creativity left a lasting impression.

We are always honoured to reconnect with our alumnae and welcome them back to see how our school continues to honour its heritage while preparing girls to thrive in a changing world.
