Dahl Inspires Design Lessons

In their Design lessons this term, Year 6 created some wonderful designs based on the Roly-Poly bird from Roald Dahl’s books The Enormous Crocodile, and The Twits.
They had to design their own sculpture on paper first, before making a 3D model out of card. This was followed by making templates, which they used to mark the parts onto pieces of plywood. The pupils took great care hand-cutting the shapes using a coping saw, before sanding the edges perfectly smooth.
Necks and Legs were bent from aluminium wire and holes were drilled using a battery drill. The final stage was the most fun part which was the decorating; some really fun and creative ideas as you can see!
This is a brand new project and 6M were the first class to complete it. Well done to all who completed their design.
