The Talbot Heath school community were delighted to celebrate 139 years in education last week, led by Headteacher Tracy Harris. Both the junior and senior school, along with staff and governors, celebrated in the Lily Pond Quad, remembering Mary Broad who founded the school in 1886, and her successors. Mrs Harris said, ‘Our traditional ceremony and procession this morning beautifully showcased the enduring spirit and heritage of our school. It’s a privilege to witness these time-honoured traditions that continue to connect generations of Talbot Heath girls.’
Opening with the traditional procession of the lighted TH birthday cake in the Hub during morning assembly, the day was also marked by enjoying cake, and a special service of remembrance and thanksgiving with pupils, governors and staff. Upper 6 leavers were invited to a formal lunch with staff to officially mark the end of their school days at Talbot Heath, providing a significant moment to reflect on their contributions to the school and to wish them well as they embark on their future endeavours.
In her leaving speech, Junior Headmistress Elizabeth Pugh, shared sound advice to the Upper 6 leavers in an emotional farewell. Taking inspiration from polar explorer Earnest Shackleton, Mrs Pugh spoke of key values to guide us, such as kindness, resilience and service to others, that she herself has endeavoured to follow as her time as Junior Head. Indeed, the school motto, ‘Honour Before Honours’ was reinforced once again.
Grateful thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the day; in particular to Jo Brown and Steve Annett for their organisation and support, and to Holroyd Howe for the first-class lunch and service.
‘Happy Birthday Talbot Heath!’
