Food Preparation and Nutrition
Food is a vital part of our daily lives, essential for life. Food Preparation and Nutrition equips pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to prepare different foods and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating to practical activities. It encourages learners to cook, enables them to make informed decisions about food and develops the skills they require to feed themselves and others, affordably and well, now and in the future.
The Food Department is a vibrant and inspiring place to learn, with an atmosphere of busy and purposeful activity. The subject is taught to all students in years 5 and 6, on a rotation basis with Textiles and Design, with the aim of instilling a love of cooking that will open the door to one of the greatest expressions of human creativity. Lessons take place in our bright, well-equipped Food Room, giving students the opportunity to develop their independence, time management and organisational skills, and work safely and creatively with others.
