As a key element of our Sixth Form provision, Lower Sixth students at Talbot Heath take part in a structured, compulsory and fully‑organised work experience programme — something rarely offered in other Sixth Forms. While meaningful placements can be difficult for students to secure independently, at Talbot Heath every Lower Sixth student benefits from a high‑quality, professionally supported placement arranged through our Work Experience Co‑ordinator, Mrs Hawes.
Each Wednesday afternoon, students attend their chosen placement during a dedicated timetable slot, ensuring work experience is embedded into their academic programme and accessible to all.
A Broad Range of Professional Experiences
This year’s cohort has embraced their opportunities with enthusiasm and maturity, gaining insight into a diverse range of sectors across Bournemouth and Poole.
Current placements include LUSH, Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Colourworks. The previous term also included Diverse Abilities (charity).
Students have gained hands‑on experience in dentistry, NHS hospitals, education settings, nurseries, charity organisations, local businesses and corporate environments. These experiences help them build practical skills, boost confidence and develop a realistic understanding of professional settings — all crucial preparation for future study and careers.
