We were delighted to welcome Jenny Holt, the Network Manager from HSBC, who delivered a highly topical and valuable financial education session to both our Upper 3 and Lower 4 students. The session, during Green Planet Week, was a powerful reminder that everyday choices, and informed financial habits, can drive meaningful environmental change. Jenny challenged students to rethink their relationship with clothing, shedding light on the environmental toll of fast fashion. She encouraged our young consumers to research brands, invest in quality over quantity, and explore second-hand options. Students learnt that sustainability isn’t just about saving the planet, it’s about making smart, conscious choices with our money that support people, communities, and ecosystems.
The session moved on to sustainable choices with food, learning how to support local producers and consider the environmental costs of different dietary choices. Jenny shared practical tips for reducing our own waste and making smarter financial choices with energy and other consumables, saving thousands of pounds a year.
The session concluded with a variety of great questions and a chance for students to write down 3 pledges on their HSBC Action card. Students left the session with a deeper understanding of environmental impact, but with a sense of personal responsibility and a toolkit to take action in their everyday life and financial choices. Jenny Holt brought together financial education and sustainable choices and we thank her for an enlightening session.
Grateful thanks again go to Debs Barham for organising the event.
