Members of the school community at Talbot Heath gathered for the official opening of the Hardy Gym recently. Housed in the upper level of the Sports Hall, the fitness suite includes the latest high tech equipment, such as cross-trainers, cycling and running machines. It was named after the current Head of Sport at the school Miss Helen Hardy who is due to leave this Christmas after giving six years of service. Financed by fundraising from the Parents Staff Society, it was at the latter’s behest that it be named after Miss Hardy in recognition for her inspirational teaching and raising the profile of sports at the school. She stated what a proud moment it was for her and how touched she was by the gesture. Lauren Marks, the incoming Head of Sport said, ‘It is a fantastic enhancement to the school’s facilities providing further opportunities for the girls to enjoy, train and learn.’
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Graham Exon, unveiled the plaque at the opening ceremony. The facility will deliver another exciting resource for the girls and staff providing recreational enjoyment as well as enhancing the curriculum. The school continues to be very proud of it sports record nationally: it is ranked number 1 in the UK, for the third year, in tennis, and girls regularly compete and represent the school in 20 different sports at a national level. Particular thanks go to the parents and staff who have donated and funded, and further thanks go to the commitment of the sports staff, past and present, who have inspired the many sportswomen at the school.
