Talbot Heath school pupil Lauryn John-Baptiste is celebrating after her two superb tennis wins over the summer. The 16-year-old won the Under-18 National Championship doubles title, with Surrey teammate Emily Appleton, in Nottingham. The following day Lauryn was crowned Under-18 National Singles Champion with a convincing win of 6-3, 6-1. Lauryn, who was two years younger than many of her fellow competitors and beat the number 1 seed in the quarter finals, also received her GCSE results on the day of her second win, successfully passing all of her seven examinations. Her success comes only a few months after securing fourth place with her team in the World Tennis Championships in Qatar.
She said it has been a very thrilling year; adding ‘I am excited about the future and hope to study and play tennis at one of the US universities, possibly Florida. For the moment I will continue to train with West Hants Tennis Academy and focus on my A-Level studies.’ We wish Lauryn all the very best for her promising tennis career.
