Musical Concerts Delight Audiences

Chamber Music Concert

The Music Department's annual Chamber Music Concert was held on Wednesday 7th May in the Mary Norton Hall. This was a wonderful evening of performances by our smaller ensembles and soloists. A variety of styles were covered with a touch of funky jazz from the Saxophone Ensemble, some detailed Baroque playing from the Flute and String Ensembles, lyrical Romantic songs from some very accomplished solo vocalists and a thrilling rendition of Chopin's Waltz in F for piano from Jessica Lau.

One of the highlights of the evening, however, was hearing performances of GCSE compositions by Polly Bartlett and Chloe Larby. Polly's solo oboe piece explored many 'moods' while Chloe used a flute, oboe and clarinet to portray mischievous Goblins. It was a pleasure to spend an evening listening to so many talented young musicians.

Junior Soloists Concert

One of our most delightful events is always the Junior Soloists Concert which this term was held on Thursday 8th May. Brave musicians from Years 4, 5 and 6 entertained their parents and grandparents displaying impressive skills and confidence. Faith Wong and Isobel Place showed grace and poise on their flutes; Anya Lamparelli played her cello with real flair; Isabelle Dickinson's rhythmic violin Gopak and our two young pianists Ellie Price-Lloyd and Evie Holloway tickled the ivories expertly. We even had our very own George Formby in the shape of Molly Taylor who sang the Drunken Sailor whilst determinedly strumming away on her Ukulele. Charming vocal solos came from Emily Sherwin, Lily Aiken and Fleur Lindsay. The audience all agreed it had been a wonderful afternoon.
