On Wednesday 7th May a team of 26 girls from Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 went to Clayesmore for an early season athletics meeting. Events included sprints, middle distance and relays as well as shot and javelin, rounder’s ball throw and long jump. Unfortunately the high jump was cancelled due to rain making the take- off areas unsafe.
All girls gave 100% and enjoyed competing. There were some very good results in a number of the events. Standing out was Issy Wedderburn who won her 200metres heat and final comfortably and she also won her long jump. Olivia Thomas also reached the final of her 200 metres finishing an excellent 3rd place. Emily Cridland and Martha Pawson both finished 2nd in the 1500 metres for their respective age groups and Eloise Stanborough finished a creditable 5th in the 800 metres. Serena Sutherland threw well to gain 2nd place in the shot. A number of girls finished in the top 8 which was a great result as the standard was extremely good and it is still very early in the season.
