Talbot Heath

TH is 129 Years Young

It was a day of celebration when Talbot Heath marked its 129th birthday on Friday. The whole school community gathered in the hall for morning assembly to behold the procession and lighting of the birthday cake – complete with edible TH crest and motto – and to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the school. This was followed by the service of thanksgiving and prayers later in the morning, when the school were joined by governors and former staff, culminating in the procession to the Lily Pond Quad. Members of the school, past and present, were remembered in the prayers, and the school ethos was reflected upon by Mrs Holloway in her address.

It was also an opportunity for the staff to say goodbye and good luck to the Upper Six leavers who attended the formal birthday lunch after the service. The excellent catering team were acknowledged for their delicious birthday meal and the celebrations were concluded with a witty speech from the Deputy Head. Dr Simon Orchard, who is to leave the school in the summer for a Headship, offered humorous advice on how to survive university by incorporating his observations as a tutor, and reflections on the Survival of the Fittest theory. Best wishes go to all of the sixth form as they begin study leave in three weeks’ time.
