Starting January with a frisson of excitement

Happy New Year ! I hope that you have all been able to spend time with your families and friends over the festive period and recharge your batteries before the start of a new year. I am always excited about the opportunities that a new calendar year brings. I start January with a frisson of excitement about events, productions, exhibitions and plans, both inside school and out.

Pre- prep have started the year with a new heating system ( which is part of our school-wide heating replacement plan) and our English corridor is now adorned with inspirational quotes to lift the spirits and stimulate the imagination.

We have welcomed a number of new pupils across the school, as well as a number of new staff: Ms Hill is our new lead for Religion and Philosophy in Senior School, Ms Campels has joined our science team, as a Physics specialist, and Ms Perkins has joined our technician team.

It is always exciting to hear the buzz around the school as the pupils return. In addition to our wide range of extra-curricular programme, we have some new items for 2023 :  Mrs Moran is restarting Christian Union for pupils and staff, to run alongside Reverend Burke’s monthly Pause for Prayer sessions. We are launching strength and conditioning training for Senior pupils before school and Miss Vanco is starting up an African Dance club, which is bound to get the circulation moving.

Finally, I wish to thank the three brave wise men who agreed to don a crown and sing a solo verse of  the hymn ‘We Three Kings ‘, at my behest, in our assembly on epiphany on Friday. Well done to Mr Kirtland, Reverend Burke and Mr Hall, who sang out and raised all of our spirits on a grey morning.

Wishing you all a very positive start to the year,

Angharad Holloway
