STEAM! – Victorian Interdisciplinary Day

Year 5B took part in a Victorian engineering design day in the STEAM Hub this week. They learned about the importance of the steam engine and how this revolutionised the way in which we live. Students then took part in a design challenge to build their own Victorian model railway town with a narrow gauge railway track in the centre. Our working model steam locomotive travelled along each track in turn to demonstrate how steam engines work. They then discovered how a traction engine worked and were able to try out our own working models.
The afternoon was an opportunity to try out their engineering skills and they had to build a model bridge for a Victorian railway company.
Thanks go to Mr Morris and Mr Dobree-Carey for their organisation and teaching.
