Our vibrant, inclusive and highly professional 6th Form

Guest blogger #AnneKlemz – Head of Sixth Form

Our students’ achievements at AS and A Level are consistently outstanding. Once again, superb results in 2019 maintain our place as the best performing school in the area, where 100% success at A Level has enabled all students to gain a place at their chosen universities.

The pastoral and academic welfare of our girls is paramount. As members of small tutor groups, they are guided by Tutors who are highly experienced A Level practitioners, each with specific 6th Form related expertise, for example EPQ, Oxbridge Interview Preparation and Careers. The Tutors and Head of 6th Form work closely with academic and pastoral staff and parents to monitor progress and to ensure each girl is known, valued, happy and successful.

We have absolute confidence in the benefit of the AS examination in Y12. These provide an invaluable performance measure, allowing informed provision of support as required. We believe that this individual approach to students’ learning is a key factor in enabling our pupils to achieve such outstanding results.

A comprehensive PSHE and Careers programme is delivered by tutors, academic staff and outside agencies, ensuring our students are not only fully prepared for the outside world, but that their unique abilities are matched with the most appropriate university course or apprenticeship.

Leadership opportunities abound. The prefect team play a vital role in supporting the work of individual departments and the staff of the whole school. The Head, Deputy Head girls and Prefects are ambassadors for the Talbot Heath Community, making regular contributions to school assemblies and supporting school events. The 6th Form Committee, meeting weekly, make informed decisions regarding fund raising for their charity of choice, as well as organising a number of fantastically fun social events for their fellow 6th Formers. Last year, they were responsible for barbecues on the beach, pizza and film evenings as well as the Christmas Ball. Another team of Sixth Formers compile a termly Newsletter, so that the whole community can celebrate our achievements.

I am looking forward to another year working with these wonderful young people.
